The well-loved Mille Miglia collection represents a historical partnership between Chopard and the Mille Miglia races since 1988. The famed Mille Miglia collection has grown over the years into a symbol of car racing. The collection’s timepieces are defined as classing racing chronographs of the modern era.
In 1988, Chopard first became the official timekeeper of the Mille Miglia classic car rally in Italy. This year, Chopard’s co-president, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele participated in the Mille Miglia race himself, alongside French driver, Romain Dumas. The Mille Miglia has now, become a vintage car race, reserved for cars made between 1927 and 1957. The route goes from Brescia to Rome and back, passing through the beautiful and scenic Italian countryside. This year, 2017, marks the 90th edition of the races. In the spirit of celebration, Chopard is celebrating the occasion with the release of new chronograph models within their Mille Miglia collection.
The Mille Miglia collection rose to fame due to its charming, quirky, and masculine sports watch designs. Their new launches stay true to the style of its predecessors. The first one, The Mille Miglia Chronograph in stainless steel, has a black dial inspired by vintage car dashboards. It comes in both his and hers versions, in 42mm and 39mm, respectively. Cars made between 1927 and 1957 acted as muses behind the entire new collection, as only cars from that time period are allowed to participate in the race.
The second launch, Mille Miglia 2017 Race Edition is the perfect marriage of history and modernity. The red accents and silver dial pop against the rubber strap. The strap is made in the likeness of tire tracks, reminiscent of classic Mille Miglia race cars. Its stainless steel dial measures in at 44 mm and is water resistant for up to 100 meters. The back is stamped with the Mille Miglia logo and the chronograph has a COSC certified movement, beating at 28,800vph with a 48-hour power reserve. It features a tachymeter scale on the bezel and a sapphire crystal over the dial. Reading, when it comes to this model, is clean and easy.
The final launch is the 90th anniversary limited edition timepiece: Mille Miglia Classic XL 90th Anniversary Limited Edition watch. The white dial sits embedded in a rose gold casing. It boasts of an athletic, but graceful vibe is a tribute to the races. The strap is calfskin, a vintage-treated leather strap. This model features the impressive L.U.C movement. The particular L.U.C movement in this watch has been awarded the Geneva Seal, signifying excellence in performance and aesthetics. And, of course, as it is the 90th anniversary, this model is limited to only 90 pieces.
