The Portofino line was first presented in 1984, as a design inspired by the simplicity of pocket watches. Amongst the IWC Schaffhausen family, the Portofino is known as the “pocket watch style wristwatch.” The Portofino’s sleek design, and simple Roman numerals have become a timeless classic that represents the laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle, or the “dolce vita,” you can say.
Portofino is one of Italy’s most sought-after resorts, with a history of attracting an exclusive clientele: from A-list celebrities to royalty. The crescent-shaped shoreline of Portofino lies close to the French border. The marriage of the two most stylish European cultures are embodied in everything from the classic Portofino Chronograph to the Automatic versions and the Moon Phase displays.
To further add toe the collection, IWC Schaffhausen has announced the launch of a new watch: the Portofino Hand-Wound 8 Days with the Moon Phase display. The Moon Phase display has always been one of Portofino’s most popular watches. And the Hand-Wound is a must-have for a proper horology lover, because the pleasure of winding the watch for energy on a weekly basis is something any watch lover will look forward to. The new model incorporates both these elements. This is the first time a larger dial will house the Moon Phase display.
It’s got a crisp white dial against clear gold markers. The case is available in a beautiful red gold or an elegant stainless steel. The movement is in the 59000-caliber range, displayed through the sapphire crystal back. The back is also decorated with Côtes de Genève stripes. Additionally, the Portofino Automatic Moon Phase 37 is also, now available with a silver plated dial instead of the mother-of-pearl. Its straps are exquisite alligator leather by Santoni.
